How Does Botox Help Patients Who Suffer from Dystonia?
Our Approach
Learn More
Dystonia is defined as the contraction of muscles. More often than not, the contractions cause severe pain and abnormal positioning of certain body parts. In cases such as this, physicians will inject Botox into those affected muscles. The Botox swiftly weakens the contracted muscles ultimately causing them to return back to their normal state. The longevity of this drug is fairly short, which means patients will need to continue the treatment every three to four months.
Side-Effects of Using Botox
Some common side-effects our patients can expect to experience after receiving Botox include:
- Pain
- Swelling
- Bruising at the injection site
- Flu-like symptoms such as headache or an unsettled stomach can also be expected. If injections of the drug are being made in the patient's face, a temporary case of drooping eyelids may follow.
