CHRISTUS Health’s Flight For Life has been providing care since 1985. We service a 150-mile radius from our bases in Palestine, Longview, Wills Point and Mount Pleasant, TX. Our clinical team consists of a flight registered nurse and a flight paramedic, who each have two national board certifications in critical care. We operate three aircraft models and two of our bases have IFR aircraft that can operate during some extremes in weather.

Certified Clinical Crew

Our clinical crew is specially trained to care for critically ill and injured adults and children. All clinical crew members are required to maintain two national board certifications in critical care.

  • Acute vascular emergencies requiring time-sensitive care
  • Heart attacks/STEMI
  • IABP/Impella transports
  • Major traumatic injuries including those in the geriatric and pediatric age groups

  • Obstetrical emergencies such as preterm labor or placental abruptions
  • Electrolyte disturbances or toxic exposures that require immediate intervention

Specialized Therapies, Procedures and Equipment

  • Whole blood and plasma carried on every flight
  • Advanced airway procedures including medication assisted intubation and surgical cricothyroidotomy
  • Video laryngoscope for intubating adult, pediatric and neonatal patients
  • Full complement of neonatal and pediatric equipment (suction, OG/ NG tubes, warming devices, airway equipment and medications)
  • Chest tube placement
  • Arterial and umbilical line placement
  • Escharotomy
  • Maintain Impella and LVAD cardiac assist devices in transport
  • Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)

  • Fetal monitoring (capable of twin gestation)
  • BabyPod, a temperature-controlled environment for 2-7 kg infants
  • Mechanical CPR device
  • Hamilton T1 mechanical ventilator for adults, pediatrics and neonates; capable of advanced modes such as APRV, PRVC and neonatal CPAP in addition to CPAP and BiPAP
  • Point-of-care ultrasound, for assessing internal injuries
  • Monitors capable of transducing three invasive lines, continuous temperature monitoring, ETCO2, SpO2, 12-lead ECG, pacing and defibrillation
  • Hemostatic gauze, commercial tourniquets and junctional tourniquets for controlling hemorrhage
  • IV fluid warmer to provide warm blood and fluids to the patient
  • Airvo high flow nasal cannula
