What are Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy Repair?

Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy repair are surgical procedures used to treat upper respiratory tract conditions. Both procedures are minimally invasive and require only a local anesthetic.

Laryngoscopy: Involves inserting a scope into the larynx (voice box) to diagnose or treat diseases that affect the voice box.

Bronchoscopy: Bronchoscopy is similar, but instead, a scope is inserted into the bronchial tubes of the lungs to diagnose or treat diseases affecting the lung tissue.

What causes the need for Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy repair?

Laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy repair are performed to diagnose and treat problems in the airway, such as obstruction, inflammation, or infection.

The procedures evaluate laryngeal paralysis, vocal cord lesions, aspiration of food particles or liquids into the lungs (aspiration pneumonia), lung cancer diagnosis and staging, and diagnosis and treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

What Happens During Laryngoscopy and Bronchoscopy Repair?

In both laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, surgeons use specialized instruments such as forceps, surgical scissors, lasers, electrocautery devices, and endoscopic tools to perform repairs.

These instruments are used to remove tissue, cysts, tumors or other abnormal growths within the upper respiratory tract. In some cases, surgical intervention may also be necessary to correct a structural issue, such as a deviated septum, to improve breathing function.

After the surgery, patients are monitored for several days to ensure any potential complications are addressed.

Depending on the procedure, this post-surgical observation period may last from a few hours to two weeks or more.
