Dr. Matthew Murray is board certified and subspecialty certified in sports medicine. He specializes in surgery of athletic injuries of the upper and lower extremity. He performs hundreds of routine arthroscopic procedures annually, including meniscus surgery, ACL reconstructions, labral repairs, and rotator cuff repairs. After spending four years an assistant clinical professor at UT Health Science Center, Dr. Murray is also very experienced at taking care of complex athletic knee and shoulder injuries, and is referred patients from all over Texas for his expertise in these problems.
Working directly with the world-renowned Dr. James Andrews, Dr. Murray completed his fellowship training for surgical sports injuries at The American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. There he cared for numerous NFL, NCAA, NBA, and MLB athletes.
Dr. Murray completed orthopaedic surgery residency training and obtained his medical degree from UT Health Science Center San Antonio, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. As an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was a letterman on the Texas Longhorn football team, winning Big XII Conference All-Academic First Team honors.
