Gustavo Villarreal, MD, is part of our highly trained primary care team at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic in Alice, TX. Dr. Villarreal is an experienced and respected family medicine clinician. Dr. Villarreal graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico with a Medical Doctor degree and completed his residency in family medicine at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut.
Dr. Villarreal has been in practice for more than 38 years, during which time he has focused on patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and osteoporosis. He has also conducted research and trials on diabetes and metabolic syndrome and has published several papers on these topics.
Throughout his career, Dr. Villarreal has held a number of leadership roles in the medical community. He has served as a medical director, founding physician, and attending physician in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practice. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M International University, where he taught Advanced Pharmacology and Pathophysiology at the Graduate School for Nurse Practitioners and served as a preceptor for graduating Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
Dr. Villarreal's commitment to serving his community has been a driving force throughout his career. He founded and developed a healthcare service to serve low-income communities in Webb County and has served as a physician for normal and high-risk prenatal care, and primary physician in normal and high-risk deliveries.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Villarreal has served on several advisory boards for several big pharmaceutical companies. He has also presented at numerous national and regional conferences as a speaker on endocrinology, diabetes, and infectious diseases.
